Bangladesh Strengthens Collective Action for a More Transparent Maritime Sector
MACN Bangladesh convenes industry stakeholders to advance transparency, efficiency and responsible business practices.
On 30 July 2026, MACN Bangladesh brought together maritime stakeholders in Dhaka through two events designed to strengthen collaboration and support integrity across the maritime sector.
The day began with the MACN Bangladesh Working Group Meeting, hosted by Interport Group, the only MACN member company currently based in Bangladesh. Representatives from maritime industry associations, shipping companies and service providers gathered to discuss practical challenges affecting the efficiency and integrity of maritime operations.
Discussions focused on three priority areas: improving the clearance process for IMDG Code cargo, accelerating digitalisation and e-payment systems across maritime services, and strengthening transparency and integrity throughout the sector.
The meeting highlighted the importance of creating a forum where industry stakeholders can openly discuss operational bottlenecks and identify practical solutions through collective action. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to supporting MACN’s work in Bangladesh and promoting a business environment where integrity is the norm.
Later that day, MACN Bangladesh hosted the Maritime Open House: Advancing Responsible Business Practices in Bangladesh’s Maritime Sector. The event brought together shipping agents, ship management companies, audit and compliance professionals and other industry representatives for discussions on integrity challenges and collaboration opportunities.
A key focus of the Open House was introducing MACN Associate Membership to small and medium-sized enterprises operating in the maritime sector. The strong level of interest from participants reflected growing recognition of the value of collective action and responsible business conduct across the industry.
Together, the two events marked an important step in expanding engagement with Bangladesh’s maritime community. By bringing businesses and industry associations together, MACN Bangladesh continues to support practical solutions that promote transparency, operational efficiency and integrity throughout the maritime sector.
