Building Integrity at the Suez Canal
Last week, MACN hosted a webinar with representatives from the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), providing members with an update on efforts to strengthen integrity across canal operations through practical reforms and operational improvements.
Three developments were highlighted:
• Fewer onboard interactions by reducing the number of personnel boarding vessels during transit
• Greater digitalised registration, payment, and operational processes to increase transparency and reduce opportunities for improper conduct
• Expanded integrity training for pilots and masters through the SCA Academy, embedding professional conduct and anti-corruption principles into operational training
A key message from the SCA was the importance of real-time reporting. Early reporting helps address concerns quickly, de-escalate issues and support safe, professional transits. Members can contact MACN’s HelpDesk for a direct response.
The webinar recording is available in the Members’ Area on MACN’s website.
Thank you to the SCA representatives and MACN members who joined the discussion and shared their perspectives.
