From Workshop to Workplan: Advancing Ghana’s Port Clearance Reform

Advancing port clearance starts with shared standards and practical coordination.

In Sogakope, MACN and its partner, Imani Center for Policy and Education, convened alongside the Ghana Maritime Authority and the Joint FAL Committee for a week-long workshop on “Efficient and Transparent Port Clearance”.

The goal: support implementation of the IMO FAL Convention in Ghana.

MACN contributed by:
• Working with technical subcommittees to identify priority areas
• Supporting alignment of approaches across stakeholders
• Contributing to the development of concrete workplans

The workshop helped clarify how vessel and cargo processes can be harmonized, improving predictability and transparency across port operations.

This work directly supports Ghana’s preparations for its 2028 FAL Convention submissions and strengthens collaboration between public and private actors.

Next step: continued engagement with partners to translate workplans into operational improvements.
