MACN Secretariat Meets with the Viña del Mar Agreement to Explore New Collaborative Opportunities
On September 4, the MACN Secretariat, represented by Martin Stene, along with local partner Fernando Basch, met with General Prefect Hugo Cafaro, Secretary of the Latin American Viña del Mar Agreement, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
A key topic of discussion was the implementation of the IMO’s Code of Good Practice for Port State Control Officers (PSCOs), and the Code’s three fundamental principles – integrity, professionalism, and transparency – all of which the Agreement has been dedicated to implement and uphold. The primary objective of the meeting was to identify strategies to enhance cooperation between MACN, the Viña del Mar Secretariat, and the Maritime Authorities that are members of the Agreement. This will enhance integrity and transparency in port State control inspections while addressing global challenges related to maritime corruption.
MACN and the Viña del Mar Secretariat are committed to advancing the meeting’s proposals and maintaining an open dialogue for future collaboration!
