MACN Visits Members in Hamburg, Germany
In November, MACN visited its members in Hamburg, including Hapag-Lloyd, NSB Group, Oldendorff Carriers, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM), and Cetus Maritime.
Discussions with members revealed both unique perspectives and shared challenges, highlighting several industry-wide priorities:
- Navigating Changing Regulations
Members emphasized the need to adapt to evolving regulatory frameworks, particularly those that strengthen the focus on corruption prevention. - Promoting Transparency
Openly reporting bribe and facilitation payment requests remains a critical strategy. Aggregated, anonymous data from these reports supports risk mapping and fosters public-private dialogues to shape effective policies. - Strengthening the Value Chain
Addressing corruption risks requires collaboration across the entire value chain—from cargo owners, shipowners and ship-managers to seafarers and port agents. Equipping all stakeholders to handle these risks effectively is essential.
These conversations reinforced the benefits of shared learning within the network. Members showcased how corruption prevention is increasingly embedded in day-to-day operations, moving beyond traditional compliance approaches to become a core part of business practices.
We would like to thank all participating members for their time, insights, and commitment to driving positive change in the maritime industry. Thank you for your valuable contributions!
