MACN Visits Suez Canal Authority to Deepen Collective Action in Egypt
Global trade continues relentlessly even during the year’s most celebrated festivities period. During February, just days before Ramadan, the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) was pleased to pay a courtesy visit to the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) leadership in Ismailia, following our renewed partnership under the 2025 protocol. The meeting marked an important step in further strengthening our collaboration with the SCA leadership team, building on prior constructive engagements. MACN introduced its work and the role of our local partner Eldib Pandi, while exploring opportunities to support and promote the SCA’s achievements as well as discussing MACN plans to convene its 2027 Members Meeting in Egypt, reflecting our shared commitment to integrity, efficiency, and transparency in vessel transits through the Suez Canal.
This engagement exemplifies MACN’s broader Collective Action methodology, where member companies partner with governments, port authorities, and stakeholders to conduct root cause analyses and implement practical solutions that reduce integrity risks across the maritime supply chain. Evidence-based constructive dialogues, informed by MACN’s incident reporting data and multi-stakeholder input, are key to this approach.
Through our joint efforts with SCA, MACN continues to address challenges in Suez Canal transits, leveraging from data and initiatives like train-the-trainer programs for pilots and ship masters to promote professional conduct. Furthermore, MACN data confirms that “Saying No” actually works when standing ground against demands or bribery offers, leading to fewer delays and incidents without retaliation. Now is the ideal time for all stakeholders to further engage in Collective Action, building on these ongoing efforts to enhance transparency and reduce operational risks in this critical waterway.
Taking place just weeks before Ramadan began, the meeting holds special significance, aligning our shared values of integrity, discipline, and ethical conduct with the holy month’s emphasis on reflection, community, and heightened professionalism, reinforcing a timely commitment to transparent operations during this culturally vital period.
