Next Generation of Seafarers Training Roll Out Continues in Indonesia
Equipping future seafarers to navigate integrity challenges is an important step toward strengthening transparency and professionalism across the maritime sector.
Last week, MACN and STIP Jakarta, in collaboration with the Association of Indonesia Maritime Study Programs (APPI), continued the rollout of the Next Generation of Seafarers Integrity Training in Makassar, South Sulawesi Province.
The training brought together first-year cadets from PIP Makassar, Polimarim AMI and Poltekpel Barombong. The objective was clear: to help future maritime professionals recognise, prevent, reject and report corruption, while fostering a strong culture of ethics from the earliest stages of their careers.
During the program, participants:
- Engaged in integrity-focused lectures and discussions.
- Explored practical corruption risks through group exercises.
- Took part in role-play scenarios that strengthened decision-making and reporting skills.
The program was officially opened by Mr. Suharto, Head of the Human Resource Development Agency for Transportation of the Ministry of Transportation. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of developing a generation of ethical Indonesian maritime transportation professionals and expressed hope that similar initiatives could be adopted across land and aviation sectors.
The continued rollout of the Next Generation of Seafarers program reflects a shared commitment among educational institutions, government stakeholders and industry partners to strengthen integrity across the transportation ecosystem. As MACN continues this work with partners across Indonesia, the focus remains on giving future maritime professionals practical tools to uphold ethical standards throughout their careers.
