Port State Control Officer Ethics and Integrity Leadership Training in Lagos

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of the Ethics and Integrity Leadership Training for Port State Control Officers (PSCOs) in West and Central African Region, held in Lagos, Nigeria, on June 10th and 11th, 2024.

This training is the first of its kind, organized by the Abuja MoU in collaboration with the Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN), and was well attended by a representative from each of the 22 Member States. This marks a significant milestone in our ongoing efforts to enhance Ethics and Integrity capacity development of PSCOs in the region, and beyond.

The training program, aligned with the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) Code of Good Practice for Port State Control Officers, and the FAL guidance aimed to bolster adherence to laws, regulations, and standard operating procedures. The training was highly interactive, featuring discussions on real cases reported to MACN and exploring the compliance landscape towards standard operating procedures.

By bridging the gap between the public and private sector actor’s and constructively addressing such challenges collectively, we foster a culture of integrity, professionalism, and transparency. Thereby reenforcing our collective commitment to combating unethical practices and promoting fair trade in the maritime industry.

We would like to greatly thank each of the participants for their valuable time and contributions towards this training.
