Season’s Greetings from MACN

It has been a busy 2023 and we are proud of the progress MACN has made in the ongoing fight against corruption. Our membership has grown, the reach of our collective action program has extended, and our engagement with governments around the world continued and increased – underscoring the success and impact of our collective action approach.

The commitment and support of our membership led to several key achievements:

  • We held two successful member meetings, in Copenhagen and Mumbai, welcoming over 275 participants over these two events.
  • MACN is now proudly presented in eight countries globally (Argentina, Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Nigeria, Pakistan, Malaysia, and Nigeria).
  • MACN’s HelpDesks in Egypt, India, and Nigeria have now been used by over 2,100 vessels, with 185 cases requiring escalation due to reported bribery attempts. Of these escalated incidents, 99% saw a formal resolution reached between the company and the authorities. Read more about MACN’s Collective Action projects here.
  • We launched:
    • the first issue of the ‘Insider Bulletin’. This report aims at fostering transparency, promoting engagement, and strengthening our collective resolve, while inviting the membership into the operational ‘engine room’ of MACN.
    • a new tool on the member site for companies to get support in their compliance journey and efforts.
    • the Port State Control Page showcasing data on challenges related to PSC, at MOU, Country, and Port levels.
  • MACN’s 3 Sea Diligence platform now proudly hosts 7,500 maritime companies.
  • 59,000 incidents were reported through MACN’s Anonymous Incident Reporting system.
  • Port Integrity Scorecards using MACN’s anonymous incident data and other sources available for 260 ports.

The MACN Board and Secretariat would like to thank all our members, partners, and donors for your support and dedication to our global network in 2023. We have continued, as a collective, to advance MACN’s mission of achieving a maritime industry free of corruption. We wish you a wonderful and joyful holiday season and all the best as you embark on a healthy and successful 2024!
